Teleradiology
Teleradiology is the
electronic transmission of radiological images of patients
such as X-Rays, CTs, and MRIs from one location to another
for the purposes of interpretation/ consultation and
reporting. Typically, digital images are transmitted
through the Internet, over standard telephone lines,
wide area network (WAN), or over a local area network
(LAN) supported by Radiology Information System (RIS)
software or a Picture Archiving and Communication Systems
(PACS) client. Teleradiology solutions facilitate the
quick and efficient transfer of images from a hospital
to another part of the hospital or even to other locations
around the world.

Thus
Teleradiology is a specialized from of Telemedicine,
using which hospitals and radiology centers can provide
timely and cost-effective care for their patients. An
image transmission station, the transmission network,
and the receiving/ image review station are the three
essential components necessary to successfully utilize
such a solution.
